Frequently Asked Questions

I am in need of your help with something!  This winter I am trying to utilize some of the newer technology and update my website and make it more educational for members and other visitors to the site.  I would like to add Podcasts and Videos.  One project is a Frequently Asked Question page highlighting one quesiton per month that I answer in a video.  Please send me questions you think are important for me to answer for runners of all levels pretaining to our club.  Some examples would be “Can I wear my old shoes to run?”, “What should I eat before running?”  I sincerely appreciate any help adding to my list of questions.  Thanks a million!!!

Mrs. MSRC 2008

What a wonderful week!  Thursday was the Holiday Lights Run along Summit Ave.  This year we ran west toward the river and it was so pretty!  Many houses were lit up and the festive feeling in the air made you happy to be running at that moment!  The conditions were actually great for running and everyone who came (Ruth, Carrie, Sarah, Laura, Sue, Jill, Linda, Chris L., Rachel, and Kristin) had a very nice time!  We all, everyone which has to be a record, followed up the run with dinner and/or dessert at Cafe Latte!  Kristin brought us all a treat (see photo above).  Scott (her boyfriend) actually made the mold from scratch so now we have a cookie mold for all occasions!  Thanks guys, we are thankful for your creative abilities!

Saturday’s run ended up being a beautiful run along Minnehaha Parkway!  The snow was falling, the temperatures were not bad, and the mood of us all (Carrie, Ruth, Jill, Missy (new member), Dawn, Caitlin, Stella, Kristin, and myself) was upbeat even after the drive to Lake Nokomis.  We made the most of the day and made some great memories!  Here is a photo of some of us who finished.

Happy Holidays Ladies!  There is so much to be thankful for and most of all, I am thankful for all of my running friends!  I never imagined we would create such an incredible club but we have and we are set for a fantastic 2009!!!

Best Wishes,

Kim

Indoor Running Options

There are actually a good number of options for indoor running in the Twin Cities besides jumping on a treadmill or running on your health clubs tiny little track!  Here are the locations and the hours they are open for runners:

1.  Metrodome in MPLS – Minnesota Distance Running Association (MDRA) sponsors Running at the Dome on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 5-8pm for $1.  Enter at Gate D. You can park free in the upper Dome lot.  It closed around the holidays.  Please check the schedule here www.runmdra.org.

2.  Another option is Roseville Ice Arena.  They open up their elevated carpeted track for free to the public.  I believe there are 3 lanes and it is around 6-7 times per mile.  There are nice straight-aways but the curves are 90 degree curves so kind of slow.  The nice thing is the temperature, the ice keeps it cool.  I liked this option but it can get crowded.  There is a schedule and you will want to go to http://www.cityofroseville.com/index.asp?NID=536

3.  The Stillwater Dome is another option for the mornings.  They open at 6am for walking and running around the soccer fields.  They are not open in the evenings or weekends for walking/running.  It is $2/visit, Wednesday free.  I was just there for the first time and I really liked it.  The temp. was around 50 or maybe slightly cooler (had tights, gloves, long sleeve and jacket on for most of the run).  It is 4.5 laps per mile and the surface is fantastic, spongy!

4.  City of Woodbury/Bielenberg dome has a simular indoor track 6-7 times = 1 mile.  They are open at 6am everyday plus weekends.  Saturday/Sunday only open from 6-8am, during the week they are open 6am – 4pm for running most days.  Sorry, no evening times.  $2 or they have a punch card. http://www.ci.woodbury.mn.us/parks/bschours.html.

5.  The State Fair Colusium is another option.  It is five laps for a mile.  The hours are not great, 11:30am-1pm daily and there is a $3 fee.   http://www.mnstatefair.org/2009_pdf/HockeySchedule0809.pdf

6.  Bethel University Indoor Track – starting in January, when school starts, the open rec time will be 7 – 9 am Mon – Fri and also 12 – 2 in the afternoons.  The cost is $3.00 per person.  No openings on the weekends.  The calendar will be posted in the lobby for each week or you can call the student worker each day.  638 – 6140
