Last night (July 23) Debbie McTaggart told me a great story I have to share. She was out running 11 miles in her neighborhood a few weeks ago to prepare her for her 12 mile race (Run Around Rose) last weekend. She ran out of water with 3 miles to go and was really thirsty. There was a lemonade stand which was a welcome relief except Debbie only had a $20 bill! She was so thirsty she gave them the $20 and asked the little girl to do something nice for someone else at some point, pass it on basically. I love that story! When we are desperate we will do anything for a little aqua! I guess the take away from this story is to make sure you carry some $1 bills with you when you run!!!

10 Thoughts on Whole Living (Body & Soul, March 2006)
I have been going through old magazines and came across this top 10 list and was compeltely fired up and had to share it with all of you. I hope one or more of the points lights a fire under you!
1. Allow yourself to experience the first delicious moments of morning. Wake up slowly.
2. Live in tune with your body; there is no single portrait of health.
3. Deep renewal comes from resetting your rhythms.
4. Your energy doesn’t run out – it gets blocked. Find ways to free your flow.
5. Bodies in motion tend to stay in motion. Keep yours moving.
6. Positive change aligns with your deepest values.
7. With each challenge comes new growth. Engage in rewarding efforts.
8. Share your strengths – and be open to others’ gifts.
9. There is no substitute for rest. Get plenty.
10. Surrender your need to control; let yourself be amazed.

MSRC Goals!
Happy Hot Tuesday everyone! I heard the heat index will be above 100 degrees today. Please stay cool and please do not run in the hottest parts of the day. You are just asking for a miserable experience!
I wanted to share with you some of your teammates accomplishments and goals for this year. I was working on a newsletter and it has not materialized like I had hoped and I asked for your goals so we could share them and hopefully motivate each other. I have to say, it gives me goosebumps to read these again. You all are putting yourselves out there and working hard and accomplishing some amazing goals! The power of the group is spectacular!
Member Accomplishments and Goals 2008
Jess Wolney Whidbey Island half: 2:20:15.7 10:47 pace……uphill!!
,
Get in Gear 10K: 1:01:30 9:54 pace…..in a sleetstorm, against the wind, uphill!!
Nothing like running in the face of adversity right? makes me stronger.
Laura Demick Get in Gear result – 37:59
Steph Hartman Ran the Get in Gear 5K in April. I am planning on running the Time to Fly 10K and then I would like to train for the TC 10 mile. My goals are to be able to run 10 miles, feel healthy and lose weight.
Sue Fite My race results: Get in Gear – 5K – 40:07 (my first 5K ever!)
As for a goal, I’d like to run another 5K this summer or fall and shave
some time off that.
Robin Paurus Accomplishments so far in 2008 include the 100% Irish in March and the Whidbey Half Marathon in April. I was very happy with the results of both races. I PR’d for a 10 mile at the 100% Irish (icy roads and all) and was very happy to have conquered the hills at Whidbey. My plan for the rest of the year is to run about 1 race a month – with a variety of distances – 5k’s, 10k’s, 2-3 more half marathons, and maybe a 10 mile too. My main goal for 2008 is to have fun with everyone at training and races, and of course at coffee too.
Amy Carr Get In Gear 5k 29:59, Goals – run a 10K and run Lumberjack Days 10 mile
Kristin Ulstad Whidbey Island 1/2 Marathon. I ran a 2:08:37. (Not a PR, but it was fun anyway!) My goal for the rest of 2008 is to move back to Minnesota and rejoin MRSC! It might be as late as December… the sooner, the better! My running
goals are to run at least twice a week while I am finishing grad school.
Not lofty, but realistic. I don’t have any race goals, unless you consider
the rat race of grad school an event.
Dawn Dew This year I have done the 100% Irish and the Whidbey Island half marathon. I was very happy with both my times, especially the half marathon because it was so hilly! 100% Irish time 1:28:53, pace 8:54, Whidbey Island Half time 1:56:54, pace 8:59. I am excited about these because when I started running 3 1/2 years ago I was running a 12 minute mile. My last year running with this group is what has really pushed me to try and improve my time. My biggest goal for this year is to complete the Twin Cities Marathon. I am participating in this race with Team In Training and will be running in honor of my dad, but will also do some of the training with our group (I couldn’t do it without everyone’s support!).
Vicki Brewer My accomplishment would be completing the 1/2. Finishing and feeling good as always.
Heather Stucki Yukon Snowshoe Race (placed among top 10 women overall and first in age group)
Chris Lindquist My goals for this year are to:
1) incorporate new running techniques
2) improve time
3) be injury free ![]()
4) run a half marathon this fall
Jeannie Martin Goals. To try a mix of race types and distances and figure out what my ideal race is (trails, 10K, halfs, etc.) and try to focus on those next season with increased speeds, etc. I like doing one race a month. After running the trail mix, I found that I really liked the trail run. Running Apple Blossom 10K, Grand Day 5 or 8K, Grandma’s half, Whistlestop 1/2 or 10K. I am sure that is a good start. Want to improve my 5K time (if possible), but maybe it’s not worth the effort.
Linda Jahnke Races so far this year…Jan 1 – Polar Dash 5K – Freezing cold (at least -5!) Just to do it was a victory! Apr 26 – Get in Gear 10K – Improved my 2007 time by 4 minutes despite snow and wind! My goal for this year is to run a race at 10:30pace. Upcoming races are: Pacemaker 5K, Heart of Summer 10K, Heart & Sole 5K, Women Run the Cities 10 mi, Whistlestop ½ marathon, Scimed 6K (at work), Turkey Day 5K, Reindeer Run. All things are possible in the Moving Soles Running Club!
Liska Brown Get in Gear 10K, 1:01.49
Sonya Stylos Jan. 13, 2008 PF Chang’s Rock and Roll Arizona Half Marathon: 1:44:54, my PR
March 15, 2008 100% Irish for a Day 10 mile race: 1:27:42
April 13, 2008 Whidbey Island Half Marathon: 1:51:29, placed 2nd in my age division.
Upcoming races: Downtown Half Marathon June 1, 2008, I hope to PR.
Stillwater Lumberjack Days 10 mile race July 26, 2008, I hope to better last years time of 1:24:27 by about 5 minutes
Leading Ladies Marathon, Lead to Spearfish S. Dak. August 17th. This will be my first marathon, and yes I am registered. My goal is to finish in 4-4 1/2 hours, but I will be happy just to finish.
After that, I plan to start trailrunning and training for an ultra (50k) for my up coming 50th birthday year.
I guess I will see how things (like my body) go.
Andrea Johnson I took 6 minutes off my 10K time at GIG this year and finally accomplished my goal of completing a sub-60 minute 10K time. Chris Lindquist ran with me the entire time and kept me on track to finish in less than an hour. The moral support that this running club provides is phenomenal!
I plan on running the Maple Grove Half Marathon on May 17th, my first half marathon. This will be my last race in Minnesota since my husband and I will be moving to Oregon in June. I really want to carry all the running knowledge I’ve learned to Oregon with me, so I’ve registered for a half marathon in Oregon in June. Running has felt so great this spring that I’m seriously considering running the Portland Marathon in October. I can’t believe I’m saying that because last year at this time I could barely run 6.2 miles and I swore I would never consider running a marathon. I guess that’s what proper training and support do to you…it just makes you want to keep pushing for the next adventure.
I hope to find a running club Oregon, but I think MSRC is one-of-a-kind!! I will miss the support each and every one of you have provided this past year. Good luck in all your running and walking endeavors.
Erin Bursch Get in Gear 5K - 29:57
Carol Beirl Get-in-Gear, April 25, 2008 My accomplishment is that I DID it, in spite of the snowy, blustery day! My goal was to feel good and I DID! My children ran the 2K without a complaint about the weather, and I was so incredibly proud of them! What a joy to see them run in together! My goal is to keep running for physical, mental and spiritual health, with an occasional 5K or 10K race for fun.
Debbie McTaggart I’ve only run the 10K GIG race so far - goal was to finish under
1:12:00 – met my goal and PR at 1:09:05. Plan to run a few more 10Ks
over the summer with hopes of lowering my pace to 10:30 – 10:45 and
finish closer to 66-67 minutes. Also plan to do the Women Run the
Cities 10 miler again with goals of 1) finishing and 2) lowering my
time from last last year!
Roxanne Erickson The only race I’ve done with year is Whidbey Island Half Marathon. My goals for this year is to get healthy and stay injury free. I am planning on doing the Chicago Half Marathon.
Jane Hogan Completed the Human Race in St. Paul and the Race for the Cure on Mother’s Day. I ran the Cure race with my sister which was her first run after breaking her arm in three places at the Pine Tree Apple Orchard Run in October. My goals: half marathon in October. Some ten-milers this summer. Hike the Inca Trail in Peru in August/September. Stay uninjured for 6 months!
Coach Kim This year has been weird for me as I am truly content with running for fun and not for time or competition. It is a weird feeling but I think having Erin around has changed my focus on everything, she is such a gift and she is teaching me so much about enjoying each minute of life because it passes you by so quickly. So far this year I ran the Whidbey Island Half Marathon and enjoyed each step of the way! I plan on running the Leading Ladies Half in South Dakota in August and then I am not sure, the door is open to many possibilities. My main running goal is to run trails, run trails, run trails, run trails every chance I get! My other goal, as in every year, is to support each of you however I can in your running goals. I will be running the Lumberjack Days 10 mile with Amy Carr and I have recently decided to run a half marathon in early August as a training run in preparation for the Leading Ladies Half.
